How to live frugally and healthy!
As many of you know, I have been sugar free for about a month. I have not purchased anything processed or used sugar in anything in that time. This means that a lot of things have to be made from scratch. I have figured out that you can save just as much using coupons as you can by making things for yourself.
Yesterday, I made a Crockpot full of apple butter with apples that I picked at a friend’s house. A jar of it at the store is full of sugar and other unwanted additives and runs about $4. I made 3/4 quart (the size of 3 store bought jars) for just the price of the spices, which I already had on hand. It was sugar free and delicious. Even if I had to purchase the spices, they can be purchased at the dollar store (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice). Apples are really cheap right now too (some stores have them as low as $0.59/#).
Today, I made homemade tortillas. All it took was a little flour, water and oil. Those are things we all have on hand and it sure beats the ones at the store that are full of chemicals.
I am learning to adjust to this new unprocessed life and I am loving it. I have lost a total of 7.5 pounds so far, without even trying. What’s not to love about that?
